Tropical birds call through the rain forest as you step into the warm morning. You settle into a rocking chair and a cup of coffee on the porch of your private cabin as you watch the light and the clouds dance across the Arenal Volcano. Watch the hummingbirds and try to spot a toucan as you make the short walk to join your fellow travelers for a yoga class. Breathe, stretch your body, and open your heart to whatever might come today. After a home-cooked breakfast you set out for adventure. Today you’l board a private river boat to photograph monkeys, birds, sloths and more. The excitement of the day carries you through an evening yoga class and into the cocktail hour, where you’ll share your experience and photographs with your companions. After enjoying a farm-to-table dinner in the open-air dining room you’ll head back to your cabin to recharge and prepare for a whole new experience tomorrow.
Photography can be the language we use to share our story. Are you ready to move beyond your tools and focus on creating images that speak to you? Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO are important to understand, but they are only a means to an end.

A Mirrorless, DSLR, or point-and-shoot camera with interchangeable lenses. Please bring your camera manual.
A versatile mid-range zoom lens (18-55mm, 24-105mm, etc) is fine. You will also want a longer telephoto lens (something 400mm or longer is best) for shooting wildlife on the trip. A dedicated macro lens and a wide-angle zoom lens will also be handy.
For Micro 4/3 shooters, Rob recommends:
- LUMIX G9 Camera
- LUMIX/Leica 8-18mm f2.8/4
- LUMIX/Leica 12-60mm f2.8/4
- LUMIX/Leica 100-400mm f4-6.3
- LUMIX/Leica 45mm f2.8 macro
- Memory cards. We recommend 128GB of storage or more.
- Tripod. Rob uses Gitzo tripods.
- Hot-shoe flash
- Lens cleaning cloth or lens pen
- A good lightweight camera backpack like the Tenba Solstice is recommended.
